The economic situation grew more difficult for students attending public universities in Georgia this past Tuesday when the state Board of Regents unanimously voted to double a special mandatory student fee starting in January. The move means students at Georgia's research universities, including GCSU, will be charged $200 in student fees each semester.

Voices raised in Biblical backtalk echoed across Front Campus this past Wednesday as Brother Jed Smock, a traveling preacher from Columbia, Mo., made a stop at GCSU to spread the word about Jesus Christ and to rail against the college lifestyle.
Smock, like many other evangelists who make the rounds at colleges nationwide, chose to shout the word as loud as he could, and several students decided to shout back, including sophomore Khaliah Shaw.

Less than 18 months since his coronation as mascot of the Georgia football team, Loran's Best - also known as Uga VII - died suddenly Thursday morning, leaving the Bulldog Nation in a collective state of shock.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. this past Wednesday afternoon, tension awaited as hundreds of people flocked toward Front Campus. Groups of anxious people registered their names, received raffle tickets and cheered within the yellow caution tape boundaries ready for competition.

Uga VII, Georgia's beloved mascot who took over for Uga VI a little over a year ago, died suddenly Thursday afternoon.
He died of heart-related causes according to owner Frank W. "Sonny" Seiler. He was four years old and finishing his second season as the team's mascot.
"We are all in a state of shock," said Seiler. "We had no warning whatsoever."

An 18-year-old Clemson University student told police he was held against his will and assaulted in the basement of the Chi Phi fraternity house early Sunday morning, according to a University Police report.
The complainant, who was visiting the University for Saturday's football game, told police he was held after an altercation at Roadhouse bar up the street from the house.
