Roland Emmerich's "2012" may not be one of the best films of the year, but it is definitely the most prime example of a "commercial" movie that is (what we critics call) "wonderfully bad." They avoid daily activities that could potentially put them in harm's way and some are too afraid to get out of bed in the morning.

But why? Where did the superstition come from?

One theory suggests 12 is the most complete number.

Meteor shower hits peak tonight

Shooting stars and meteors will spray across the sky 500 times an hour tonight during the once-in-a-lifetime Leonid Meteor Shower. Leonid meteors are debris originally cast into space by the comet Tempel-Tuttle, discovered in 1866. Each time this comet orbits the earth, it leaves behind some debris and when Earth passes through the debris, shooting stars and meteors occur.
