Finding a place to live in Athens is hard, but finding someone you get along with well enough to sign a contract with just might be harder. Whether they're friends, acquaintances or just a randomly selected roommate, there are some things you might want to consider when looking for a roommate.
Students wishing to leave campus housing after their first year at the University, and find a residence off campus should remember that with this newfound freedom are new responsibilities. One of these responsibilities includes becoming familiar with Athens-Clarke County living ordinances.
Athens is rife with houses for rent, but with so many apartments, why would you consider renting a house? Richard Martin, an assistant real estate professor at the University, said renting a house has its benefits. "When you rent a house there are no shared walls, no noisy neighbors, more room and parking is at the door," Martin said.
LEASE: After students move out of their parents' home and experience dorm life for a few years, the next move is to sign a lease. A leasing contract is a legally binding document committing the signer to monthly payments for the complete term of the lease.
