Baseball

It was only fitting Sunday's final game of the Diamond Dogs' series against Ole Miss was rained out.

Due to losses in the first two games at Foley Field, the Dogs already may have washed away any chance of making the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

The Dogs lost to the Rebels on Friday 7-1, followed by a 10-8 defeat Saturday. They are now 8-18 in the conference, tied for fourth in a division where only the top three teams will head to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., May 13-17 for the SEC Tournament.

In Friday's loss, the Rebels broke up a close game in the top of the eighth inning, when Ole Miss extended its lead to 4-0 then tacked on three more in its final at-bat to win. Georgia's Zack Frachiseur took the loss for Georgia, allowing four runs on 11 hits in seven innings.

Frachiseur tied a career high with 11 strikeouts. Saturday, Ole Miss broke an 8-8 tie in the eighth inning, crossing the plate twice for the win. Barry Fowler took the loss for the Dogs as he left the bullpen to relieve Josh Jerkins.

Softball

Looking to gain some momentum heading into the SEC Tournament, the softball team got swamped instead, losing four straight games to Florida over the weekend in Gainesville. The Bulldogs must now face the SEC champions again in the first round of the tournament Friday at 4 p.m. in Columbus.

Georgia (34-24 overall, 10-16 SEC) couldn't manage a run as they fell meekly to the overwhelming Gators.

In game one of Friday's doubleheader, the teams were locked in a pitcher's duel until the Gators broke open the game in the eighth. Florida (45-18, 23-5) wasted no time in the second game, scoring all four runs of a 4-0 victory in the first two innings off Georgia starter Rhonda Coffelt. Saturday's doubleheader was the same with the Bulldogs losing 8-0 in the first game and 4-0 in the second. The sweep ended the Bulldogs' regular season, as Tuesday's home finale against Georgia Tech was canceled due to overscheduling.
