Dooley directs Dogs to third place in Sears Cup
GENTRY ESTES
Bulldog sports took the bronze medal in the annual Sears Directors' Cup with 890.5 points. Pac-10 powers Stanford (1,349.5) and UCLA (1,138) finished first and second. Georgia had the highest finish of any SEC school, as Florida was seventh and Tennessee was 21st.
'I think our success in the Sears Directors' Cup competition this year is a great tribute to our coaches, their staffs, and the student-athletes,' University Athletics Director Vince Dooley said.

Boosting the point total, Bulldogs won NCAA championships in men's tennis, women's golf and women's swimming and diving.
The three trophies were the most since 1998-99, when Georgia's four titles lead to a second-place finish in the Sears Cup.
'Three national championships is a tremendous accomplishment,' Dooley said. 'Certainly a special commendation should go to the coaches and staffs of our women's golf, men's tennis and women's swimming and diving teams.'
Helping the cause were the gymnastics team (second at NCAAs), women's tennis (final four), men's golf (fifth) and the College World Series' birth of the baseball team.
Accord-ing to Dooley, the Diamond Dogs' late-spring efforts moved Georgia from seventh to third in the final
standings.
'We should remember that many others contributed to this overall effort
with outstanding seasons,' Dooley said.
'Certainly our baseball team, which has not produced any Sears Cup points in recent years, had a
tremendous impact by getting to the College World Series.'
