The Georgia soccer team (1-1) started a long week of travel and tough matches on the right foot with a 3-0 shutout of Georgia State (1-2) in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon.

"We got some great playing time for our freshmen and were able to create lots of scoring opportunities," said head coach Sue Patberg.

Three different players contributed goals for the Lady Bulldogs, with highly touted freshman Geneil Newbern tallying her first goal in a Georgia Bulldog uniform.

Sophomore Tricia McKee continued her hot play with her third goal of the season, and junior Ashley King also found the back of the net to complete the scoring for the Bulldogs.

"Overall, we put more pressure on the ball defensively, created more offensive opportunities and had better play on set plays (than in the Clemson game)," said Patberg.

Georgia has dominated the all-time series with the Panthers, winning last year 6-0 and chalking up five shutouts in seven matches.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 6-0-1, with the lone tie coming two years ago by a score of 0-0.

Georgia continues its week on Friday night traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a match against a tough Wake Forest team before returning home for a face-off with No. 9 Connecticut on Sunday.
