Dantzler removed from '5th Quarter' show for indecency

Jeff Dantzler, a sports radio broadcaster at the University was fired after asking three female students about the color of their underwear.
The incident occurred during an interview with three "Diamond Darlings," female students who work as ushers and at souvenir stands for baseball games.
During the interview, one student told Dantzler she was wearing nothing but red and black to which he responded by asking her and the other students the color of their underwear.
Traci Long, general
manager of Southern Broadcasting Companies Inc., said Dantzler will no longer host a weekday show on WRFC-AM 960 or the "5th Quarter" call-in show after football games.
Dantzler, however, will continue to broadcast baseball and men's and women's basketball games on the station because he is an employee of the University, which selects the
announcers.
Matt DeVane, a freshman from Peachtree City, said in light of the context of the remarks, he thinks Dantzler's punishment was too harsh.
"The world, as a whole, has become too politically correct -- people are too sensitive," he said.
Kevin Curtiss, a freshman from Snellville, said he thinks Dantzler should have thought about the repercussions of his remarks before he spoke.
"You should be more mature and realize that people might take offense to those kinds of comments," he said. "In this day and age you can't say things like that to people."
The Georgia baseball team, with Dantzler at the mic, travels to Alabama this weekend for a showdown with the Crimson Tide.

I met Jeff at Harry Bissett's on New Year's Eve. He was very appropriate and friendly. I think that he should have thought before he spoke, but losing his position is quite harsh. (Continued…)
