The summit, a meeting in which the leaders of the world's eight industrialized nations meet to discuss international economic, security and political issues, will be held on Sea Island in June.
Leaders of Canada, Japan, Russia, the United States and the members of the European Union will be in attendance.
"The Center for International Trade and Security and the International Affairs Council are co-hosting the two members of the G8 Research Group," said Fausto Sarmiento, chairman of the International Affairs Council and a senior from Athens.
The G8 Research Group is a network of scholars, professionals and students interested in activities of the G8.
"There are a lot of student opportunities. In the past, students from Canada have been involved in G8 research and activities related to the summit," said Gary Bertsch, director of the University's Center for International Trade and Security and a professor of Public and International Affairs.
"Students here can learn more about the G8 Summit and what it means to UGA and the state of Georgia," he said.
The G8 Research Group was founded and is directed by Kirton.
It is the world's top independent source of information about G8 members, according to a University news release.
Kirton and Koch will be speaking at various locations on campus today and will deliver an address titled "The G8 and Prospects for the Sea Island Summit," Friday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel.
