This year's Golden Globes brought a few prominent themes in fashion, including spring pastels, old Hollywood glamour and basic black taken to a whole new level.

Pretty pastels were big on the red carpet for both women and men. Sexy presenter Jennifer Lopez, who arrived without Ben, was adorned in a silver belted tangerine dress by Michael Kors.

"Sex and the City" star Kim Catrall wore a beautiful, pink, asymmetrical beaded Valentino dress circa 1969.

Veteran actors Pierce Brosnan and Michael Douglas decided to show their "true colors" by wearing pastel collared shirts with their traditional suits.

Old Hollywood glamour was the way to go for the trendsetters like Nicole Kidman, who wore a gold-plated flapper dress with a plunging neckline by Tom Ford for Yves Saint Laurent.

"Mona Lisa Smile" star Maggie Gyllenhaal looked Gilded Age-appropriate in a bronze sequined cocktail dress by Lanvin and with her newly-cropped hair.

Director/screenwriter Sofia Coppola wore ballet flats and a mid-length dress by Azzendine Allaia.

Pregnant "Will & Grace" star Debra Messing glowed in an elegant black dress and jacket by Isaac Mizrahi.

Best dressed women of the night included "Sex and the City" star and fashionista, Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore a gray strapless chiffon gown by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel couture.

Actress/presenter Brittany Murphy shined in a sea foam green deconstructed dress by Dolce & Gabbana, and "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston, who arrived Pitt-less, looked classically beautiful in a vintage black gown by Valentino.

The best-dressed award, however, goes to "Monster" actress, Charlize Theron, who was lovely in her pale yellow ruffled dress by Christian Dior with diamond and onyx bangles.

The best-dressed male award goes to the ruggedly handsome Ashton Kutcher, who wore a traditional black suit with a full tie.

The worst-dressed included royal presenter Sarah Ferguson, who wore an ill-fitting black-laced dress by Dolce & Gabbana, along with gloves and poofy hair.

Funnyman Robin Williams, notorious for his poor fashion choices, wore an all black suit with a silk shirt and extra-long coat that left viewers cringing.

The worst dressed couple of the evening, however, was eccentric actor Johnny Depp and his girlfriend Vanessa Paradis. Depp wore a black and brown suit with a brown derby hat, while Paradis wore a ruffled black gown and a multitude of accessories that made her most closely resemble a bag lady.

Thank you for this pointless article -- I see how your review of fashion was necessary to this issue of The Red & Black. Perhaps you should focus on real news, including national, rather than have some two-bit author decide she didn't like Johnny Depp's hat. (Continued…)

Great article on current fashion. Just love evening and cocktail dresses.
