Athens brunch options abound
RISTA FRANKS
Those who can’t eat early in the morning but get hungry later will find plenty of brunch options in Athens to satisfy the palate.
Patio highlights Big City brunch
Big City Bread Café offers brunch from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., satisfying the desire for a filling breakfast or a light snack.
A large patio is available for outdoor enjoyment, and minimal indoor seating is also available.
The menu includes daily omelet specials, quiche, French toast and various combinations of eggs, ham, bacon, cheese and salmon on biscuits. Side items include bacon, ham, yogurt, fruit and grits. Health-conscious eaters can choose soysage in place of sausage.
Last Resort serves brunch, artwork
At The Last Resort Grill, customers may enjoy their meals on an outdoor covered patio or indoors where the brick walls showcase vibrant local artwork.
A wide array of entrées are served during brunch, which is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
Adventurous diners can try the Shiitake-Roma Pasta, but those who desire a more traditional breakfast will find the Sunday Standard of eggs, grilled new potatoes, bacon and a scone more appealing.
East-West serves up casual elegance
East-West Bistro offers an atmosphere of casual elegance where diners may eat at either booths, tables or outside along the sidewalk of Broad Street.
Brunch, served on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., includes a variety of omelets, poached eggs, Belgian waffles served with fresh fruit and sweet cream and cappuccino pancakes served with sweet cream and chocolate sauce.
The full lunch menu with salads, sandwiches and pizzas is also available during brunch hours.
Desserts include a decadent chocolate mocha cake dusted with powdered sugar and cocoa powder, served with raspberries.
Famed chef sparks Five and Ten
Five and Ten Chef Hugh Acheson was recognized by “Food and Wine” magazine in 2002 as one of the nation’s 10 best new chefs.
The brunch menu — served from 10:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Five Points restaurant — changes weekly but includes items such as a fruit plate, pancakes, eggs benedict and spaghetti Cavanaugh.
Customers may dine in an enclosed patio or at a bar.
