Presents available at specialty market

This weekend, students can find the perfect present for their family and friends at The Marketplace: A Shopping Extravaganza at the Classic Center.

Organized by the Junior League of Athens, the event will feature more than 80 specialty vendors from around the country, including Branch Antiques & Decorations from New York.

"We have a lot of great local merchants and others from around the country with merchandise they may not see again," said Tracey Daniels Hickey, marketing chair of the Junior League's organizing committee.

Local merchants include The Garden Gate art gallery, Kay Kreates and Urban Sanctuary day spa.

When: 7 €" 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9; 10 a.m. €" 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 1 €" 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11
Where: The Classic Center
How: General Admission $5, Seniors & Students $3 at the Classic Center Box Office or the Junior League at 549-8688

"The Make-A-Wish Foundation will be helping to wrap presents, and people can come out and find a gift for everyone in the family," said Tiffany Hines, co-chair of the Junior League's organizing committee.

Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., admission will be free for a preview sale. At 7 p.m. the Junior League will hold a wine tasting party to kick off the event, and a dinner catered Outback Steakhouse.

Admission to the dinner is $25.

All proceeds will benefit child welfare programs in Athens-Clarke County.
