Most music venues in Athens try to involve all types of listeners - the goal is to create something new and exciting for people to enjoy.

Montu Miller, the chief administrator of the local community activism organization Dreaded Mindz Family, with the help of Major Bigg of Deadlock Entertainment, saw the potential in Tasty World's venue.

They made off with the spot to introduce their new development called "Tasty Tuesdays."

Miller said, "We were begging for an event where we could showcase raw talent in the context of a variety show atmosphere."

Tasty Tuesdays was planned and will be set in motion for the first time on Tuesday.

When the doors open, it will allow the public to enter into a night of dance, networking and hip-hop battling.

The night will be mixed by DJ ICUE and Major Bigg with be the host.

Miller said the hip-hop battle will begin about 30 minutes after doors open. The "8 Man Battle" will consist of a cycle of improv.

These sets will be recorded and added to the Tasty Tuesdays mix tapes, he said.

"You can catch it live or you can catch it on the mix," Miller said.

"We are gonna include the best battles and the best performances."

Anyone who wants to sign up along with some chosen talent can participate in the battle.

The featured act will be a different band and genre of music each night as the event gains steam.

"It will be hip-hop at first, but eventually we want it to be a real nice blend - something everyone can enjoy, like a piece of candy," Miller said.

With indie, punk, hip-hop and R&B contacts, they are striving to involve every kind of music to attract all kinds of people, he said.

Another event showcasing heavy music such as punk and metal, is Bent Wednesday, which will begin weekly Wednesday.

Noah Ray, a member of the band Music Hates You, said he enjoys bringing other bands to the Athens scene on a "you help me, I help you" basis.

"Nowadays there are so many bands that the way you get in is by swapping places," Ray said.

Ray said he has given this Wednesday night the name "Deep, Dark Prom" - a basic Prom Night, complete with fake blood buckets and a photographer.

Ray said he hopes people won't take the dress code too seriously due to the bloody nature of the party.

No special performances will begin on Wednesday, but Ray said in the future the music will explore the different styles of heavy rock each week.

On March 22, PPR from Atlanta, Community Chaos and 696 are scheduled to perform.

"I want to get the heavier scene of Athens out of the closet," Ray said.
