The best bands show stylistic range

Some of my favorite bands are the ones that can play a variety of styles of music.

Take Modern Skirts, for example.

That band can rock out the 40 Watt Club, but the members can also play some pretty enjoyable acoustic tunes in the middle of the day. Either way, I love them.

Then there's Bain Mattox. He and his band of the same name, can rock out on the banjo and accordion.

But on Feb. 1, he will release a solo acoustic album. I heard one of the new songs on his MySpace page and I love it just as much as any other song of his. And he doesn't play a bad acoustic set, either.

This weekend, Five Eight will do the same.

This may be a new experience to the group's fanbase. I'm not sure how I will like it since I haven't seen the band in this form before, but I encourage any fans of the band or fans of acoustic music in general to check out the show.

The Melting Point is one of the best things that has happened to Athens in quite a while.

Any show by anybody is sure to be a fun experience for those attending.

And the food isn't too bad either.
