Tonight, a world of endless possibilities will be created. You can go salsa dancing in the arms of a beautiful stranger. You can enjoy the company of safari animals without traveling to Africa.
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Where: Tate Center
Cost: Free w/ student ID, $5 for non-students
The University Union will create this world at its first Dawgs After Dark program of the semester. The theme for this event is "Cultural Explosion" and will include various attractions such as small safari animals, salsa dancing, henna tattoos and other attractions that reflect the program's theme.
There also will be activities such as laser plex games, magic carpet ride pictures and an obstacle course.
"Cultural Explosion" is a theme Dawgs After Dark has never used before.
"It is different from previous ones because this one will try to promote diversity," said Dawgs After Dark coordinator Felicia Barrett, a junior from Valdosta. "We have invited Infusion and other diverse student organizations."
To make this and future Dawgs After Dark programs more creative, the University Union's programming committee has instituted some changes.
Barrett said since last semester, the committee has chosen movies to be shown at the events according to their respective themes. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," a movie that explores Greek culture, will be shown at the event.
Dawgs After Dark is a popular event among many University students.
"The themes are always exciting," said Nneka Agum, a sophomore from Portland, Ore. "During my first semester at UGA it was a great opportunity to meet people."
Dawgs After Dark will take place at the Tate Center from 10 p.m to 2 a.m. Free food from Golden Dragon restaurant will be served.
"It is a great way to get away on a Friday night" said Jill Courson, University Union program advisor. "You can come with your friends. There's always a huge crowd."
