Oldest student group turns 204
The Demosthenian Literary Society celebrated its 204th birthday Saturday evening with a 12-hour "all night meeting."
The event, which began at 7 p.m. and lasted until 7 a.m., featured conservative columnist Phil Kent, Grady College Dean E. Culpepper Clark and a University classics professor.
The "all night meeting" also included an alumni debate.
Demosthenian also impeached its president, as tradition calls for, and re-instated him early Sunday.
The oldest University student organization has about 55 members.

Univ. announces grad. speakers
University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll Davis is scheduled to give the undergraduate commencement address on May 12 in Sanford Stadium, University administrators announced Friday.
The first black University graduate, Mary Frances Early, will deliver a speech to graduate students.
Researchers model biological clocks
University researchers published the first working model explaining how biological clocks work last week.
Genetics Professor Jonathan Arnold led the group, which included graduate students and other professors.
They discovered how three genes in bread mold work biologically at the molecular level.
This research was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Food lab receives state recognition
Governor Sonny Perdue recognized the University's Nutraceutical Research Laboratory with a Georgia Center of Innovation award and grant.
The award commends the University's work on the nutraceutical value of the muscadine grape. Three University professors worked on the six-year project.
