National rankings in men's tennis range from one to 75. At one end is Furman (4-4), ranked No. 73 in the nation. No. 1 Georgia (8-0) provides quite the contrast.
Not only do the Bulldogs boast the top ranking as a team, but also a starting lineup comprised entirely of ranked players.
Georgia's singles lineup consists of No. 3 John Isner, No. 9 Luis Flores, No. 13 Travis Helgeson, No. 20 Matic Omerzel, No. 54 Nate Schnugg and No. 78 Jamie Hunt.
In the latest doubles' rankings Isner and Flores are at No. 1, while Helgeson and Omerzel gained a No. 5 ranking. Hunt and Schnugg picked up the No. 42 spot in the country.
On paper, the mismatch between the Paladins and the Bulldogs is obvious, but Furman holds one advantage over Georgia.
Georgia's ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship win closed a highly successful indoor season, and tomorrow will be Georgia's first outdoor event of the year, whereas Furman has competed outdoors previously this year.
The match tomorrow begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex and admission is free.
