I was very disappointed that your article, "Campus recycles technology," made no mention of Free IT Athens, a local student-run volunteer organization. This is surprising since you ran an
extraordinarily positive story about us last September.

In the past year and a half, Free IT Athens has processed over 3 tons of recyclable computer equipment and logged over 1000 hours of volunteer work. The unusable materials are recycled responsibly and the usable computers are refurbished and kept in the Athens community. To date, we have donated over 30 computers to local non-profit organizations and individuals.

While we agree that keeping computers out of landfills is important, we feel that in light of our local poverty problem it would be more responsible to keep the usable computers in Athens. Unfortunately, after reading the article, it looks like we are the only organization in town working to make this happen.
