As students maneuver through a maze of flyers and tables, the University Health Center found a less conventional method to grab students' attention.

From noon to 3 p.m. today, students can stop by the Dawg Gone Healthy Day at Tate Student Plaza for educational information, contests and more than 100 prizes.

"We want to help students here on campus to think about the health center and their health now before other issues arise," said Vanessa Graves, graduate program adviser for the student group, In Sickness and In Health.

In the festive spirit, students can participate in contests such as carnival-style balloon popping and travel-based games.

"It's like Nickelodeon-style games, only for college students - and we don't have any slime," Graves said.

Some of the prizes include a gift certificate to Last Resort and a football signed by the football team.

In addition to the games, students can enhance their health knowledge.

"People always come up to us at the table and ask questions, typically about sexual health, and we are able to point them to pamphlets or to a professional on the subject," said Devin Smith, a sophomore from McDonough and a member of the Men's Health Advisory Committee.

The games tend to put people at ease, Smith said.

"Students see the games and challenges that we have set up at the table, and they overlook their possible reservations about sexual topics and learn a lot of material because of it," Smith wrote in an e-mail.
