The stench was in the floorboards.

Lucky's Lounge, the new bar that has filled the void left by Classic City Saloon, has completed numerous renovations and innovations in the décor and appearance established by its predecessor.

However, none may be as welcome as the unpleasant downtown bar odor having been removed along with the old floor, according to Justin Saxon, general manager and a real estate Master's student from Elberton.

"The smell came from the floors so we've completely sanded them down and restained them," said Saxon. "They're pretty much white."

Other changes include the general decorative scheme, along with the different themes assigned to the bar's two floor levels.

"The color scheme is different. It's all an industrial look to it as far as the silver and grays," Saxon said.

Saxon added the bar will be divided into a dance area and a lounge.

"Upstairs is more of like a dance type theme and downstairs is more along the lines of a loungey hip-hop martini type bar," he said.

"We're going to be getting a lot of DJs to play on Friday and Saturday nights," said Saxon.

For entertainment's sake, the bar has brought in two pool tables and various arcade-style video games, said Saxon.

Lucky's Lounge will also have the feel of a sports bar, thanks to its setup featuring two projection screens and five televisions at the bar with a different sports channel on each screen, according to Saxon.

Happy Hour is set to run from about 3 to 10 p.m., after which the dance party will begin, Saxon added.

For those wondering if the name Lucky's Lounge implies a background of Irish heritage and pride, or any such theme, Saxon has an explanation to the contrary.

"It doesn't come from anything particular, but I know the owner of the bar is always talking about how she wants people to come in there and feel like they're getting lucky with drinks and things," he said.

Saxon acknowledged the explanation's implications with a laugh.

Plans for the future of Lucky's Lounge include the placement of a kitchen in the basement in June or July of this summer.

"We're hoping to be serving food by football season," Saxon said.

As far as the sort of clientele the bar hopes to attract, anyone can count on feeling welcome, according to Saxon.

"We hope to get every type of crowd there is," Saxon said.
