Sunglasses the must-have summer accessory

As Aprils 12's witty editorial cartoon pointed out, summer is swiftly approaching.

With many University students looking for places to get away, relax and spend some money, destination shopping is quickly becoming a new trend.

For shopaholics, there is no better way to blow off some steam than to pack up, head to the beach and check out the offerings of another distinctive city.

My suggestion? Set your sights on Savannah, the best, coolest and nearest big city with water around its edges. Beyond having a Paris-like feel and housing the famous Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah has just become home to the largest Marc by Marc Jacobs store in the United States.

This 4,500 square foot store, located on hot spot Broughton Street, is the fifth store of its kind, according to a March 21 report on www.fashionweekdaily.com/news.

The store, which opened Easter Sunday, did not advertise its presence, yet customers lined the streets to get a taste of what high fashion truly feels like.

With no other major fashion designer stores located in the city, this shop offers a unique and somewhat less pricey (than Marc Jacobs original) outlet for shoppers.

When looking for hot items to browse at this new boutique, make sure to keep sunglasses at the top of your list.

Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses are inevitably modern and come in styles such as aviators, oversized (á la Nicole Richie) and logo styles for label lovers.

Priced around $90, these sunglasses are more affordable than other designer brands.

If Marc by Marc Jacobs does not strike you as a label to lust after, try classically cool original Wayfarer's by Ray-Ban. These unisex sunglasses bring back memories of a young Tom Cruise circa "Risky Business."

Also priced in the $90 range, it is worth making a small investment for sunglasses like these. Other labels that always carry the best in investment sunglasses include Costa Del Mar, Chanel, Dior and Stella McCartney.

For sunglasses options that won't break the bank, check out the women's selection at Target and the men's selection at sunglasswarehouse.com.
