A female University student was arrested Saturday and charged with taking more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Heery's Clothes Closet, police said.
Christina Marie Gill, a freshman from Peachtree City, placed a $189 Georgette striped shirt, $298 Verushka mini-dress and a $575 Nicole Miller gown in her purse and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items at 3:50 p.m., according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report.
Store owner Thomas Heery stopped her and called the police.
When police arrived, Gill was sitting on a bench in front of the store crying, talking on her cell phone and repeatedly apologizing, police said.
Gill was arrested and charged with a felony count of theft by shoplifting.
After searching Gill's purse, police found three other articles of clothing with tags from Pitaya, police said.
Employees of Pitaya told police the items belonged to the store, and Gill had been shopping there earlier but did not buy anything, according to the report.
Gill told police she intended to return the items, which she had purchased from Pitaya earlier, but did not have her receipt.
Pitaya employees declined to press charges.
"This is a huge miscommunication," Gill told The Red & Black about the charges. "I'm not that kind of person."

I don't normally break down and cry, while apologizing, over a miscommunication. Sorry, you ARE that kind of person. You are also the kind of person that cannot own up to their actions, which makes you two kinds of horrible. (Continued…)

Wow....now this girl has some good taste. She didn't go for the $15 dollar mini skirt or $20 shirt, she went for $298 and $189 respectively!!!!! What made her look suspicious? I mean I always put the things that I INTEND to purchase in my purse or inside my pants, and attempt to leave before I realize that there is a miscommunication between me, myself, and I. (Continued…)

Everyone is legally innocent until proven guilty, just a thought. The information obtained in a police report or given by a store owner is only opinion of the officer and the store owner(they are essentially not legal conclusions). (Continued…)
