"The bands are definitely awesome and contrasting genres," said John Diehl, a senior from Marietta and a student in the music business program. "They are supposed to be just good examples of Athens kind of music, that we like and thought people would like."
The concert has been put together and promoted by students in the Terry Music Business program with WUGA 91.7 FM.
"Modern Skirts played our very first Terry Tunes concert and they did a great job for us. They've been very supportive of our program," said Bruce Burch, administrative director of the Music Business program.
Modern Skirts and Packway Handle Band both have done previous shows with the University Music Business program. WUGA is a co-sponsor of the event.
The purpose of the program is to prepare students for the music business field by giving them real-life experience.
The students are responsible for the promotion of the concert.
"We are teamed up with WUGA, the radio station, and basically just working to promote the concert," said Diehl. Their work is part of an externship.
The concert is a fundraiser for WUGA as well as the University Music Business program."Our program is totally donor funded, all funds go directly back into our program," said Burch.
The music business program has had about 75 total students, with 24 graduating this semester. They already have 16 students enrolled for the fall and still are taking applications, available at www.terry.uga.edu/musicbusiness.
Their last showcase at the Melting Point did well, with about 200 to 250 people attending, Burch said.
Tonight's show is open to all ages and will last for about four hours. The music business program also will have its graduation at the event.
Tickets are available at Wuxtry Records, by calling 706-542-9842 or at the door.
