The University plans to increase the minimum wage paid to salaried employees beginning Jan. 1, 2008.

The wage will be $20,000 per year, a 5.3 percent jump, compared to the current $19,000 lowest salary.

"We are once again pleased to be able to direct a portion of the University's resources to those employees who most need it," said University President Michael F. Adams in a news release. "The University has taken some very large steps over the past five years to address the wages paid to our lowest-paid employees."

The increase will affect 586 salaried employees.

The University also plans to add to the fringe benefits package that employees choose for themselves and their dependents.

Univ. Law School wins state title

The University School of Law won the 2007 Intrastate Moot Court Championship and the Best Brief Award, making this the second consecutive year to earn both awards.

Second-year students Tully T. Blalock, Cameron D. Hawkins and David L. Pilson comprised the winning team.

Another team of second-year students James E. Butler, Rachel D. Horton and Catherine D. Runion advanced to the semifinal round.

Both groups were coached by third-year students Lauren L. Mock and Glenn T. Singleton.

Every year, each law school in the state fields two teams in the competition.

Georgia Law also finished the National Appellate Advocacy Competition as quarterfinalists and received the Fourth Best Brief Award.
