Thanks to a perfect 5-0 record in conference games last week, the Georgia softball team has ensured
its season will extend beyond this weekend's three-game series against No. 6 LSU.

The match up with the Tigers will give the Bulldogs an opportunity to improve their seeding in the SEC Tournament, which begins on May 10 at Auburn, as well as a possible look at their first round opponent.

Remaining Schedule
May 5-6:
Home vs. No. 6 LSU
May 10-12: SEC Tournament at Auburn, Ala.
May 18-20: NCAA Regionals (if selected)

If the season ended today, the sixth-seeded Bulldogs would face either LSU, national No. 1 Tennessee or No. 2 Alabama in the first round of the tournament.

But an impressive showing against LSU at home this weekend could allow Georgia to move up in the overall conference standings and avoid a first round game against one of the three SEC juggernauts.

The next two weekends also give the Lady Bulldogs a chance to improve their case for a bid to the NCAA Regionals, which begin on May 18.

Georgia currently holds a 41-24 overall record, 11-14 in the SEC.

In 2006, Auburn made the regional field with a 36-22 record and a sixth place finish in the SEC, so a solid end to the season should put the Bulldogs into consideration for an at-large bid.

Head coach Lu Harris-Champer has missed the NCAA Tournament just once in her seven years in control of the program, and the current senior class has never finished the season worse than runner-up at an NCAA Regional.

But first the Bulldogs must deal with the Tigers, who come into this series on a roll.

LSU took two out of three from No. 1 Tennessee over the weekend and has put itself in position to take home the regular season conference title if it can sweep the Bulldogs on the road.

The two teams split their four meetings in 2006, including a 5-0 LSU win in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.
