The best artists you've never heard of are now only a click away, thanks to the Web and the vision of three recent college graduates.

"The 'starving artist' stereotype is very real in minds of college artists, but there are real opportunities out there for people with talent today in this present age of technology," said www.ugallery.com managing partner Stephen Tanenbaum.

Tanenbaum, along with fellow University of Arizona graduates Alex Farkas and Greg Rosborough, founded Ugallery in late 2006 after meeting in an entrepreneurship program and seeing local art students struggle for veins of exposure.

"Our vision for Ugallery.com is to bring together emerging artists from schools around the country to interact, exhibit and sell their artwork," he said.

Word has quickly to spread among artists and buyers alike. Sales have doubled in each of the first three months of operations. "Most Notable Vendor" was awarded to Ugallery at this year's College Art Association meeting in New York City.

Starting with a single artist, Ugallery now boasts a collection of works from over 40 schools, including a handful from Athens.

University student Brett Murray began posting his digitally remastered photography on the site earlier this year.

"It's great to have a place that is only for students so that we are not overshadowed by artists who have had much more time to develop," said the junior art major from Rome. "I'm gratified to have my work alongside that of other hardworking talented students across the nation."

Murray and Tanenbaum both know the obstacles ahead of young artists who until now may not have had the chance for exposure and of course, connect with potential buyers for their work.

"The art world is a very tough place to be seen and gain attention," said Tanenbaum. "We strive to make it as easy as possible for artists to exhibit and sell their artwork while teaching them about how to achieve success in the art business."

I am very happy to see that the new generation of artists is finally supported by internet and I am not talking about those internet sites where anyone, no matter the talent, can post his work. (Continued…)
