After last year's chaos when students tried to get their football tickets, the Athletic Board of Directors released a new ticket-claiming policy for the 2007 season.
The new system includes a staggered pick-up process.
Students who have completed 90 or more UGA credit hours may collect their tickets Monday, Aug. 27. Tuesday, Aug. 28, students with 50 or more hours may claim their tickets. The pick-up date for students with more than 15 credit hours is Aug. 29, and underclassmen with less than 15 hours can get tickets Aug. 30.
Register for tickets:
Begin registering Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. through Aug. 23 at 4 p.m.
Pick-up schedule:
90+ hours: Aug. 27
50+ hours: Aug. 28
15+ hours: Aug. 29
Less than 15 hours: Aug. 30
Students can pick up tickets from 5 to 9 p.m.
Tickets must be picked up by Aug. 30.
Students must be registered for 12 hours worth of classes after the drop-add period in order to sign up for tickets.
Students may claim tickets from Stegeman Coliseum between 5 and 9 p.m. beginning their designated day until Aug. 30.
Students will be able to pick up a maximum of four ticket packages, as long as they present a UGA ID for each package.
Last August, hundreds of University upperclassmen stood in line for hours in summer heat to get their season football tickets.
"I skipped class to get to the ticket booth three and a half hours early," said Chris Brookhart, a senior from Snellville. "We waited for so long, but we ended up with front row seats."
The new process will not distract students from class time, said Rahmel Fuller, a junior from Stone Mountain and University student council representative.
"A lot of things went wrong last year that could have been prevented. The past policy wasn't conducive to the teachers' needs," Fuller said. "The new process will guarantee that some students will be in class at all times."
While upperclassmen stood for hours in the heat, freshmen got tickets without a wait. But they received tickets to only three or four home games.
This year the policy will decrease the time spent waiting by upperclassmen and increase the amount of tickets for freshmen.
"With the large amount of freshmen coming in the fall, we were concerned that some freshmen wouldn't be able to get tickets," said Jere W. Morehead, vice president for instruction.
"This new policy will ensure that freshmen will receive priority consideration."
Students can begin registering online Aug. 21 at 10 a.m., and they can continue to register until Aug. 23 at 4 p.m.

It seems like this is a pretty good idea from the athletic administration, but it still looks like that you aren't going to be able to avoid long lines, esp. (Continued…)
