The University Facilities Committee discussed two pressing issues for the University - parking availability and the possibility of constructing a second Student Learning Center.
With new students attending school each year, the University has considered expanding parking services, said Doug Ross, the director of Auxiliary and Administrative Services.
For the time being, Ross said he was comfortable with the number of supplementary means of transportation that are offered to students.
Despite alternative means of transportation for students, the University is interested in building two more parking decks, said Daniel Sniff, associate vice-president for facilities of Auxiliary and Administrative Services.
Committee members debated whether the University can pay the bill for the expensive project.
"We've maxed Auxiliary Services' ability to pay for these decks," Sniff said.
Despite this, the University built a new deck located in front of the Student Learning Center. This deck will accommodate 500 vehicles and house the University Union.
For now, Sniff said that there are locations on campus that are being "bookmarked" as possible building sites for decks. The parking lot south of the Ramsey deck was included in Sniff's list.
While they have been scouting locations to expand parking, the University has also been searching for a possible location to accommodate for the construction of a second Student Learning Center. The proposed facility will cost $45 million and include four levels.
Pending approval by Michael Adams, the provost and senior administration officials, Sniff said the University could begin construction on the new SLC within the next six years.
"The day the doors open, you want to be the best in the country," Sniff said.
