Former Georgia cornerback Paul Oliver was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the NFL supplemental draft Thursday.

Oliver was chosen 28th in the fourth round.

"We had the opportunity to get a good football player today, and we took it," San Diego general manager A.J. Smith said in a statement. "Paul Oliver is very competitive, aggressive, confident player. He's not cautious about anything he does on the field. You know how we like depth. We'll add Paul to the mix as a Charger and time will tell."

Oliver was among Georgia's leaders with 57 tackles last season. He was expected to return for his senior season, but was declared academically inelgible for the fall semester.

Alongside Oliver, Maryland tackle Jared Gaither was taken in the fifth round by the Baltimore Ravens. This marks the first time since 1998 that two players were taken in the supplemental draft.
