Wednesday University officials unveiled a multi-million dollar campus construction initiative estimated to take place during the next five years.

During a meeting with 17 student leaders, University President Michael Adams shared his plan to add residential housing, construct student-life facilities and renovate current buildings.

"Buildings and campus always run in cycles," Adams said. "We are entering a cycle with roughly 34,000 students where we need to cater to student service facilities designed to upgrade students life."

Welch Suggs, assistant to the president, said the initiative does not have a firm schedule or budget.

Students should not see a drastic increase in fees. Adams contended most of the projects' funding will come from fund raising and reserve money.

Projects include:

-$17 million 28,00 square foot annex to the Health Center to be complete in spring 2009

-Adding intramural field on South Milledge Road

-$100 million in residential projects, by adding two or three additional resident halls in East Campus, adding a dorm to Reed Quad and renovating Brumby, Russell, Creswell, Mary Lyndon, Rutherford and Payne halls

-Adding a parking deck to East Campus

-Increasing the size of Georgia Museum of Art

-Reworking the East Campus loop to make it a two-way street

-Construction of fraternity houses on River Road

-$200 million in student-life related projects, such as Tate II and renovating the current Tate Center

-Converting asphalt on campus into green space
