The first step of the construction was to build a multi-level parking deck. Advisers hoped this phase would be finished by the end of summer 2008. The new building is to be situated on top of this deck, according to the Campus Life Web site.
With a budget of $58.2 million, the building will consist of everything from meeting rooms to a performance space and food court.
Will Draper, chair of the Tate II advisory board, said "We are currently on schedule; things have been going well this summer."
"It's exciting to finally see fences up and people out there working everyday and things starting to take shape," said Draper.
Stephen Dorner, vice chairman of the board said, "I've been here taking classes all summer, so I've been able to see how things have progressed day to day. It's going to be an amazing centerpiece for campus."
The next step is to prepare for the building. Because the deck supports so much weight, extra steps need to be planned, Draper said. He said
the board is "still meeting with the companies and tweaking out all of the details."
The advisory board meets again once school starts and Draper said students should contact the board with questions or suggestions.
The changes will affect the Tate pay lot and parking on game days, Draper said.
