Most students receive a daily dose of college culture by simply walking to class or picking up a newspaper. However, a Web site is now asking college students to look around more.

ThePalestra.com, an new Web site that covers all things related to college culture, calls itself "the Disney Channel for college students."

From a college campus view, the site delivers the latest content on sports, entertainment, fashion, music and trends through streaming video broadcasts.

Student reporters on more than 60 campuses, including the University, are chosen to produce, shoot, edit and star in their own series of videos. They interact with fellow students and cover the latest campus activities.

"ThePalestra.com is a newsmagazine for college culture," said Director of Marketing and Promotions Gina DiCello. "It's a place to see what's going on in other campuses as well as your own."

One of the Web site's most recent segments is a report on hip-hop fashion. In topics such as these, reporters use citizen journalism to expose the latest campus trends in a casual, off-hand style.

University students Ramin Ebrahimi and Cassie Mertzlufft said they weren't impressed.

"We're constantly surrounded by college culture already," said Ebrahimi, a junior from Athens. "There's no need to visit a Web site that revolves around what we experience firsthand every day."

"There are more useful publications on campus and around Athens that provide college culture content," said Mertzlufft. "Either way, nothing can make you more in touch with college culture than just being a college student."
