What do people do with themselves in Portland, Ore.? If Blitzen Trapper's brazen psych-bop is any indication, life must consist of a carefree carousel of sunny days, star-lit nights, sugar highs and science fiction. The west coast sextet supplies some of the most fun-loving tunes pop rock has seen in a long time. Colored with childish curiosity and a pinch of psychedelia, tracks by Blitzen Trapper recall the irresistible irreverence found in Of Montreal's era with the Elephant Six collective. Mix in organic bursts of Beck from "Odelay" and the soul-baring "Sea Change" - waxing with weird touches of Tesla and Zeppelin - and Blitzen Trapper is born. It's wacky but it works, and it's simply perfect.
