This semester, at least one of the speakers will come from as far as the University of Arizona for the series.

The discussions begin today and run through November 30.

Molly Myers, the organizer of the series and the public relations coordinator for Women's Studies, said the series should appeal to a diverse audience.

"We are looking to attract as wide an audience as possible with a lot of diverse topics," she said.

"Faculty and graduate students with the most recent research on gender are chosen to speak at the series."

Talks on topics ranging from couple relationships and mental health to home girls and hip-hop feminist studies will be showcased by researchers from many departments in the University.

The Friday Speaker Series has been a part of the Institute for Women's Studies since the early 1990s.

It is a chance for graduate students and faculty to discuss their research.

Students are the main focus of these lectures, as they give them an opportunity to meet with faculty and discuss topics that may not be offered in the classroom.

The speakers for the first two Fridays are:

• Amy Ross, associate professor of geology, will speak on International Court and its relation to humanity.

• Elizabeth Kennedy, professor of Women's Studies at the University of Arizona, will hold an open discussion on the subject of Women's Studies.
