According to Facebook, there are over 500 people at the University who list "The Princess Bride" as one of their favorite movies or books.
The movie has more or less become a latent hit with Generation Y. However, it is somewhat more rare to find that someone has taken their fandom to the level of song writing, but that's just what Dave Terry, the man who makes up Aqueduct, did.
"I was watching the movie the princess bride, and I was thinking of all these great lines it has in it," said Terry. "I basically just made a collage of the script."
Terry, who is opening for Apples in Stereo Tuesday night at the 40 Watt, did say the song might not work as well for people who haven't seen the movie, "they're like 'this guy is totally crazy.'"
This homage to "The Princess Bride" is known as "As You Like It," and it appears on Terry's latest album "Or Give Me Death." The album, which is Terry's third full-length release, is a catchy, poppy romp through Angst Town, USA. "I've always written in a kind of misanthropic way," Terry said. "The music is always kind of upbeat--and I think it kind of complements the lyrics."
When: Tuesday September 25, 8:00 p.m.
Where: 40 Watt Club
How Much: $10 in advance
Terry's musical career began in Tulsa, Okla. when he was in high school. Though Terry is now based out of Seattle, Wash., he continues to be a part of the music industry. These days, his music has finally led him to Athens.
"It will be our first time to play Athens," Terry said. "It's kind of a milestone for us."
Terry's interest in music began around the time he was in high school. Though he says he spent years in piano lessons, it was only when he began writing his own songs that his passion for music really developed. It was "just kind of a progression that led me to know that this was the right thing for me," Terry said.
