When you combine an ukuleleist, a jazziest and a guitarist, experimental things are bound to happen. Sister Suvi, committed to experimentation and captivated by the lure of the pop hook, according to their website, will perform tonight for the first time in Athens.
"Sister Suvi sounds great and I'm really looking forward to their show," said Clint McElroy, booking agent for Flicker bar.
Sister Suvi began forming when two of its members, Merrill Garbus and Patrick Gregoire met at a summer camp in New Jersey, Gregoire said. They began experimenting with sounds and later added their drummer Nico Dann who has jazz attributes in his style of playing.
"We have a pretty unique sound, especially with Merrill's electric uke (ukulele) that she plays through an amp," Gregoire said, Sister Suvi's guitarist and vocalist.
When: 8 tonight
Where: The Flicker Theatre & Bar

The band's sounds also stems from their differences in music tastes.
"When we are traveling, it's hard to put on a CD that we all like," Dann said. "But when we come together, it becomes a combination of all influences."
Merrill is the only member who was born in the states, but they all currently reside in Canada in different cities.
The band members also play apart by themselves and come back together to do little bursts of stuff, Gregoire said.
"We have never been to Athens as a band, but we wanted to do something different with this tour," Gregoire said. "It's always good to push yourself and cover some new territory."
Sister Suvi will play tonight with Sanni (Dancer vs. Politician) and Whiskey Grinn at The Flicker Theater downtown.
"Because we are coming from different places, we haven't been compared to another band yet, and that's excited for us," Dann said.
