Make sexy time with new birth control
New options for male contraception are opening up in the birth control industry, making it possible for men and women to more evenly share the responsibility of safe sex. These options, which include two kinds of pills and a plug device, might decrease the chances of surprise pregnancies, but we wonder if every male mind is thinking, "Please don't let them figure out next how to make me be the pregnant one."

Players have feelings, too
Tripp Chandler, we understand it's hard to face daunting critics, so don't worry about the dropped passes. To all of those Georgia fans who dissed Chandler's gameday performance, it's not very nice to boo someone who is just as old as you. Just ask Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy.

Britney Spears loses child custody
Oh, Britney, how glorious is your downfall from superstardom. After losing custody of your two sons this week, the hot topic is that your ex, Kevin Federline, is a better parent than you are and that you are required to take a parenting class. As you continue to make yourself a laughingstock, we just want to quote your new release, "Gimme, gimme, more ..."

Find a crosswalk, save a life
Last Friday's bus-pedestrian accident serves as a grim reminder that it's important for pedestrians to watch where they walk. Not only is it against the law, but jaywalking is a dangerous game to play - and can cost you a $90 fine. Instead of trying to beat the light or outrun the bus, wait for your turn to cross the street.

Rain, rain, please don't go away
Our rain dances worked and Mother Nature sprinkled us with her love this week. Although it rained, we're still in a near-historic drought. You can take part in the state-wide "Take a Shorter Shower" month. Or you can double shower with your significant other to conserve water and have fun in the suds.

A dangerous ride through town
After two sexual assault incidents involving a fake taxi service occurred during the Sept. 8 South Carolina game weekend, we wonder why University and Athens-Clarke County police departments took almost a month to inform the public. We hope both departments will work to better our safety when we're out on the town. In the meantime, we'll be extra careful to make sure our cab ride home is a legit service.

Quote of the week: "Unless you're Miss Teen South Carolina, you'll see through this transparent film and quickly tire of (Paul) Haggis' rant. And like the Tate preacher, you'll wish he would just shut up."

- Brian Hughes in his Oct. 4 review of Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis' new film, "In the Valley of the Elah."

Just because you won't get pregnant doesn't make it safe sex. The "pill" and now these new male contraception options only prevent unwanted babies. They do NOT prevent unwanted STDS. (Continued…)
