Richt must improve coaching skills

When football head coach Mark Richt walks into his office Monday through Friday, his job is to make sure the Bulldogs will win on Saturday. How seriously does he take his job?

He should start taking it a bit more seriously immediately. When he was hired, I was under the impression he would continue to do what he did at Florida State. His Florida State record consists of nine consecutive conference titles, two National Championships, a 6-4-1 record against Florida, two Heisman Trophy winners and the Seminoles had played in the last three BCS national title games.

Since he has been at Georgia, we have gone 1-5 against Florida and played in exactly zero BCS Championship games. What I saw on Saturday was a group of very talented athletes who played poorly because they are poorly coached. This is due in large part to the offensive and defensive coordinators, but Richt needs to bring in top coordinators to coach our top-notch recruits.

We have had national championship-caliber talent in 2002, 2004 and 2005, and no national championships. If he can't beat Florida and put us in the position to win a national championship, then the athletic director needs to bring in a coach who can.

Univ. makes poor budget decisions

I have no eco-conservation training, but it seems "long-term answer" to sustaining the water supply would be to use as little as possible.

The University is Athens-Clarke County's single largest consumer of ACC water. If the University were concerned about its budget cuts and the water supply, wouldn't it have done more to cut back on its landscaping and outdoor watering this summer?

If budget cuts are a problem, as 42 former faculty members can confirm, why would hiring "a consultant to ascertain the need for childcare" be a smart fiscal move? A 2,000-signature petition to expand the maximum enrollment of 115 children seems needy enough to me.

Ron Paul a 'joke' in 2008 election

Let's face it: Ron Paul is a joke. He claims to be a Republican but seems to attract anti-war liberals. His supporters are devoted, but wear rose-colored glasses. Dr. Paul is not a Republican or even a Libertarian. If you look at his policies and ideas, you will see this.

Paul makes sweeping yet untenable claims like removing America from the United Nations, ending government programs like Social Security and removing government departments like the Department of Homeland Security. Although these might seem like good ideas on the surface, you must look at the ramifications of these actions. Current welfare programs are inefficient and costly, but ending them in entirety would be inhumane and anti-American. Ron Paul isn't the right choice for America in 2008.

Greg,
Ron Paul is the only candidate running for president who actually values the Constitution. True small government and limited spending are staples of real Republicans, unfortunately in recent years they've done just as poor of a job at wasting money and trying to set up a nanny state as Democrats have been doing for decades. Ron Paul is not a 'joke' as you call him Greg. You are wrong on almost every point you make.
You say: "He claims to be a Republican but seems to attract anti-war liberals. (Continued…)

Greg,

So basically what you are saying is that it is OK to "talk" conservative, but to actually act like it - OUTRAGEOUS!!

This is what I am hearing from you: We MUST maintain the welfare/warfare state. (Continued…)

Greg's erudite observations about the devastation Ron Paul would wreak on our society are well-founded and not disingenuous, as his detractors suggest. (Continued…)

It is unfortunate that so many of today's neoconservative youth are so misinformed about the true conservative values that the Republican party has stood for since the days before George W. (Continued…)

Ron Paul is a joke only because he has no chance of winning. Yeah I would like to see him in the White House but its just not going to happen. I'm sure all the libtards will be happy when Hillary turns the US into a socialist state where all citizens will rely upon the federal government for everything. (Continued…)
