Friday around 10:40 a.m., nine Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to a complaint that a man was lying on the Washington Street side of the College Avenue parking deck.

Officers discovered the body of a white male. The deceased man was identified as 42-year-old Edward Hafer, of Dubose Avenue. Hafer owned The Grit, located on Prince Avenue. The vegetarian restaurant has been in Athens for more than two decades.

According to an ACC police department release, the cause of death was not certain at press time, and there is no indication that foul play was involved.
