Grit owner dies, cause unknown

Friday around 10:40 a.m., nine Athens-Clarke County police officers responded to a complaint that a man was lying on the Washington Street side of the College Avenue parking deck.
Officers discovered the body of a white male. The deceased man was identified as 42-year-old Edward Hafer, of Dubose Avenue. Hafer owned The Grit, located on Prince Avenue. The vegetarian restaurant has been in Athens for more than two decades.
According to an ACC police department release, the cause of death was not certain at press time, and there is no indication that foul play was involved.

According to the Banner-Herald on Saturday he fell from the College street parking deck. There is video of it but they're not saying whether or not it was suicide, only that there wasn't any foul play involved. (Continued…)
