Ex-teaching assistant charged with theft, fraud

Jennifer Nicole Kane, a former University teaching assistant accused in several cases of theft since December 2006, turned herself into the Athens-Clarke County Jail Friday morning.
Kane was booked into the jail at 9:42 a.m. Friday, according to the Athens Clarke-County police log, and charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of theft by receiving, four felony counts of possession of a fake ID, one misdemeanor count of possession of a fake ID, six counts of felony financial transaction card fraud and one count of felony financial transaction card theft. Bond was set at $5,000 for the felony financial transaction card theft, but undetermined in the other charges. She was released at 12:16 p.m. Friday.
The first of seven incidents was reported to police in April, and the seventh was reported last week.
According to University Police reports:
On April 1, a driver's license and credit card were stolen from a purse in the Rankin Smith Athletic Center.
On April 4, a driver's license and two credit cards were stolen from Park Hall.
On April 25, a driver's license, credit card and check card were stolen from the Rankin Smith building.
On July 18, a debit card and credit card were stolen from Joe Brown Hall.
On Sept. 27, a bookbag with two credit cards and a driver's license were stolen from the journalism building.
Between Jan. 1 and Oct. 18, three textbooks were taken from the Rankin Smith building.
On Friday, a student said her wallet with a driver's license, IDs, two debit cards and a credit card was stolen from the Rankin Smith building on Dec. 11, 2006.
The credit cards were used to make unauthorized purchases in the cases.
On Oct. 15 and 18, Sgt. Adam Fouche found two IDs from the Dec. 11 case and three stolen textbooks at Kane's apartment while serving search warrants.

I have kept up with this sudden "theft" and can honestly say that both the police and the newspaper are definitely framing the incidents in the most incriminating way possible. (Continued…)

She was never put in jail.
I think all the falsities in the R&B would be classified as irresponsible journalism.

The police log said she was entered into the jail Friday morning. She might not have spent a lot of time in jail, but she was there. The info is straight from the police log. (Continued…)
