SGA to follow up on projects in new year

The Student Government Association conducted its bi-monthly committee meetings Tuesday, covering the projects completed this semester and some planned for next semester.
"We just got out of our executive board meeting where we discussed what we've done this semester and what we have left to do," said SGA President Katy Bowers. "Both lists are really long. We've got a lot to do in the next two months."
The Academic Affairs Committee discussed the updates regarding the Preparation Week Resolution, a bill passed by the senate to eliminate tests, projects and quizzes from the week prior to finals.
"We're now going to be trying to push it through University Council," said Matthew Martin, a Franklin College senator and main proponent of the resolution. "University Council cancelled its last meeting of the semester, so we're going to try to get it on the agenda for January or February."
Martin met with Provost Arnett Mace, Vice President for Instruction Jere Morehead and Rodney Bennett, vice president for student affairs, to discuss the resolution.
"It's out of my hands now," Martin said.
The committee discussed plans for the Bookstore Advisory Board - a project to link the students, faculty members and bookstore employees.
Jason Schwartz, co-chair of the academic affairs committee, said the board would work to find solutions to students' book-buying woes, like "making sure all the correct numbers of books are available so there's a sufficient supply."
Two students, two faculty members and one bookstore employee will make up the committee. Applications for interested faculty will be available soon and are due Dec. 31, Schwartz said.
"We're in the planning stages right now," Academic Affairs Committee Co-Chair Connor McCarthy said. "We're hoping to have the selection of the faculty done by February ... and the board to take effect for Fall 2008."
McCarthy also said one of the students on the committee might be an SGA member "since they know the background of what the committee stands for, but we don't intend for it to be an SGA-run thing."
