University students can get their groove on for Dance Marathon a little early this year.

Tonight, the Sigma Delta Tau sorority will host the third annual Greek Grind event, a dance competition between sororities.

Proceeds from the competition will benefit Dance Marathon.

The Grind competition will take place at the Classic Center at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Classic Center Box Office.

"(This year) we are hoping to sell out the Classic Center, which holds two thousand people," said Dance Marathon coordinator Erika Rubin, a sophomore from Alpharetta.

"Greek Grind raises money for such a good cause. We're hoping to draw a huge crowd."

Last year's event raised more than $5,000, and the women of Sigma Delta Tau said they hope to raise between $7,000 and $10,000 this year.

"Greek Grind has grown far beyond any of our initial expectations. Sigma Delta Tau is proud to sponsor such a phenomenal event that brings together the Greek community," said Sigma Delta Tau President Emily Samuels, a senior from Marietta.

Each participating sorority will choreograph and perform a dance that will be judged by a panel.

"We are really excited for this year's competition between a record 15 sororities. It is sure to be a great event," said Sigma Delta Tau's VP of Panhellenic and Philanthropy Natalie Fliegel, a junior from Alpharetta.

Last year's panel of judges included Kate Nichols, a member of the Red Hotz; Jenny Broe, an instructor at DanceFX studio in Athens; and Danny Ware, a former Bulldog tailback.

"I can guarantee a fabulous show with a lot of extra entertainment, beyond, of course, the amazing sorority women participating," Rubin said.

Samuels disclosed that local musician Corey Smith will be one of the judges tonight.

"We can't wait until the night of the show," Samuels said. "(We) hope everyone comes out to support us."
