After being held at gunpoint on West Broad Street early Wednesday morning, two University students are safe.

According to an Athens-Clarke County police statement: Meghan Morris and Kelsey Brooks were sitting on the porch of Money Machine at about 1:30 a.m. when they were approached by two males asking for a cigarette. Brooks said they did not smoke.

The men walked around the building and returned a few minutes later. One demanded money, pointing a small hand gun at the students.

"It was kind of surreal. I never thought about what was happening," said Morris, a senior from Kennesaw, in a phone interview.

Brooks said she had no money and Morris emptied the contents of her purse. One suspect took an envelope containing $10, according to police.

"I found a couple of dollars in my purse from the tips that I make at the restaurant where I work and gave (it to) him," Morris said.

The suspects then ran west on Broad Street. The first male is described as being in his 20's, between 6-feet-1-inch tall and 6-feet-3-inches tall, wearing a gray bandanna on his face. The second male is described as being between 5-feet-9-inches and 5-feet-11-inches, weighing 160 to 170 pounds and wearing a red sweatshirt.

When an individual or individuals commit a robbery, it is certainly NOT racial profiling to include the race or ethnic origin of the suspects, just as another poster already noted. (Continued…)
