C-SPAN's 45-foot Campaign 2008 tour bus will be in Athens today, rolling onto campus to give students access to the "Road to the White House."

Tipping the scale at 22 tons, the bus features a full television production studio equipped to broadcast C-SPAN news coverage on the campaign trail at major political events nationwide.

"They're coming to bring attention to the role of politics," said Joy Holloway, public relations coordinator for the School of Public and International Affairs.

Campaign 2008, formerly referred to as the C-SPAN School Bus, is one of two revamped versions of the vehicle aimed at educating middle and high school students and first-time voters in political processes.

The bus is an educational facility with multimedia demonstration centers and a studio for live programs, including C-SPAN's Washington Journal.

"It comes down to engaging young people in the process of politics and government," Holloway said. "That's why we're excited to have them here."

"A lot of students are still apathetic about politics," said Tre Wright, a junior from Jonesboro. "Some college students don't even know what channel C-SPAN is on, so if they are trying to reach out, it's good."

Since the tour hit the road in January 2007, more than 20,000 students at 166 schools have visited the facility.

The bus will be parked today between Memorial Hall and Sanford Stadium from 1 to 4 p.m.
