Cartoons continue to cause frustration
As a student newspaper, The Red & Black's main purpose should be "serving the University of Georgia community."Unfortunately, instead of giving me that little giggle in the morning, L.Ray's cartoons make me want to put down the paper out of sheer annoyance and frustration. Instead of using her daily box to comment on University issues, she chooses to publish cartoons that instead further a political agenda.
Now don't get me wrong, I respect her right to free speech as an American and her right to her own opinion, but in a fairly conservative University, I would expect the editorial board to use discretion when publishing cartoons.
There are so many pressing issues within the University that L.Ray could use as a springboard for her daily cartoon instead of daily publishing a poor attempt at something the New York Times would cover.
Bottom line, it's a University newspaper.
If I wanted to see award-winning cartoons on national issues, I'd follow your advice and find a few good syndicated cartoonists. In the meantime, L.Ray should focus on developing her skills by using her column as a way to comment on University issues.

Students should beware of leases
In the fall, numerous students who now live in residence halls will be moving into off-campus apartments.Unfortunately, many students do not read their lease before signing and then encounter problems when they try to collect their security deposit or move out early.
Two student organizations, Peer Financial Counseling and SIFE, are joining together to help teach students how to become responsible renters.
Next Tuesday, there will be a seminar in room 213 of the SLC that will teach students how to Get A Head Start: Lease Smart!
If you would like to learn more about tenant rights, feel free to attend this seminar. It will begin at 7 p.m. It will also be a blue card event.

Jennifer Gilbert, if you are all for free speech, then why do you think the editorial board should use discretion? That means you're NOT for free speech. (Continued…)
