The Oglethorpe Elementary School held its second annual CRCT test rally Friday. The group received a surprise visit from University football player Mohamed Massaquoi. The elementary school had been coordinating with the University sports department and planned for an athlete to make an appearance.

"This was a tremendous surprise. He really motivated our students," said Kim Lord, Principal of Oglethorpe County Elementary School. "We want our students to go home excited, have a relaxing weekend and return in a positive focus for the week ahead for tests. What a wonderful treat for all of our students to have Mohamed Massaquoi at our test rally."

Massaquoi spoke to the group and encouraged the students to do their best. He also promised to return for the elementary school's field day in May to visit longer.

Massaquoi, a senior from Charlotte, and the Bulldogs finished the 2007 season 11-2 with a 41-10 victory in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. He finished the year with 32 receptions, 491 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Humphrey makes her WNBA debut in Detroit

According to WNBA.com, former University basketball player Tasha Humphrey made her debut in Detroit on Friday signing autographs at the Palace at Auburn Hills during the Detroit Pistons basketball game. Humphrey was selected 11th in the WNBA Draft last week by the Detroit Shock and will join longtime friend Alexis Hornbuckle, who was selected fourth overall by the team.

Humphrey and Hornbuckle became friends during AAU basketball as opponents. Humphrey also will be reunited with two former Lady Bulldogs, Kara Braxton and Deanna Nolan, who play for the Shock. The team will begin training camp on Sunday, and its regular season begins May 17 against the Houston Comets.
