Charges are pending against a University student following a car accident Saturday morning in which another student was killed.

Matthew Bickley, a freshman from Athens, fell asleep at the wheel of his 2003 Ford Explorer SUV at about 2:30 a.m., according to a police report.

The vehicle, which contained six other students, "flipped several times," Jesse Elder, communications equipment officer of the Georgia State Patrol, said.

Tierra Bardley, a freshman from Marietta, was ejected through the windshield window and died later on the scene.

"There will be charges" against Bickley, Elder said. "We're still investigating."

Elder declined to comment on when the charges would be made or what they would be.

University employee arrested for battery

A University employee was arrested Sunday evening and charged with of battery, a police report states.

Athens-Clarke County Police arrested Cassandra Joann Jones, a Brumby Hall facilities administrator, after a report of battery at the Red Rooster restaurant on West Broad Street.

Jones told police her fiance, Enrique Holt Jr., had "punched and kicked her" in the restaurant bathroom. According to the report: The officer handcuffed Holt and placed him in his patrol car before entering the restaurant.

A woman inside identified as Amanda Harp told police Jones came into the building, slapped her on the head and asked where Holt was. The officer reviewed surveillance video footage of the alleged incident but saw no contact between Jones and Holt.

"There was no physical evidence that cooberated [sic]" Jones' testimony, the report said.
