A citation for a noise ordinance violation Saturday led to the arrests of five University students on charges ranging from marijuana possession to underage possession of alcohol, according to a University Police report.
According to the report:
Police responded to "yelling and loud music" at a Towne Club apartment at about 1:45 a.m. and cited Jason Keith Grinstead, a junior and resident of the apartment, for a noise violation.
Police then smelled alcohol on the breath of another student, James Creighton Daniel, 20, and arrested him for underage possession of alcohol. Daniel's arrest came one day before his 21st birthday on April 20.
Police later found a plastic bag containing a "green, leafy substance" in Daniel's pocket, and he received a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
Three other University students were taken into custody. Janet Ruth Estrada, Ann Lovett Kingston, and John Lewton Lee were arrested and charged with underage possession of alcohol.
Joseph Covington Lucas, a student at The Citadel, and Edward Graham Russell, a student at Gainesville State, were also arrested and charged with underage possession.
University Police also responded to complaints of violations of Georgia Control Substance Act at residence halls Saturday.
A complainant at Hill Hall reported the smell of unburned marijuana on a second floor hallway, according to a report. Police investigated the dorm where the smell was strongest but found "no illegal substance."
University Police responded to a resident assistant's complaint of the smell of burning marijuana at Oglethorpe House on the fifth floor, but the occupants of the dormitory had "left the building" before police arrived, a report said.
On Sunday, University police observed five males "smoking marijuana" in a car parked in the Boggs Hall lot, according to a police report. The suspects fled the scene, and the officer confiscated a bag of marijuana and "other drug related objects" from the car.

Wow, so now the R&B isn't only reporting when its fellow students are getting arrested but also when students from other Universities are as well. I'm not sure if it's possible for me to hate a publication more than the R&B. (Continued…)

Bryan, isn't it the job/duty/right of the Red and Black to report on events concerning students? If students of other schools are interacting with UGA students in illegal activities why should they be immune to having themselves outted to the public? Arrests are public information. (Continued…)

Someone in Hill Hall has a great nose if they are complaining about "unburned marijuana".

I think that this is very poor reporting because not all of the events reported in the article are related to the title. Amanda, that was very clever what you did there with the eyecatching "Pot Smokers Busted on 4/20". (Continued…)

What difference does it make about the headline? You really prefer to be called a drunkard over a pothead? Besides, anyone who actually knows you will read the whole paragraph. (Continued…)

be more like CoastalDawg; Everytime he posts a comment I just yearn to be more and more like him. I think he is probably utilizing his "spot" in the student body more than any other student at UGA!! What a life he must live. (Continued…)
