• Groundbreaking ceremony: University Health Center expansion. Ceremonial start to construction of the $17 million, 30,000 square foot addition. Reception follows on Health Center patio. Parking available in the East Campus deck. 1 p.m.
• Panel Discussion: Some Sociocultural and Economic Implications of the Emergence of Yoruba as a Global Culture. Sponsored by African American Studies, African Studies, and the African American Cultural Center. Part of the APERO Africana Brown Bag Lecture Series. Panelists are Dr. Akinloye Ojo, African Studies; Dr. Harrison Adeniyi, Lagos State University, Nigeria; Dr. George Alao, INALCO, France. 12:15 p.m. African American Cultural Center, Memorial Hall, 4th floor. • Film Screening: "Willow Garden" and Other Short Films. Sponsored by the University Parents and Families Association. Jim Haverkamp, a filmmaker and freelance video editor who teaches at Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies, discusses his work as part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. Shot in film noir style, Willow Garden tells the story of a murder ballad in which a young man must decide whether to follow his heart or his father's twisted advice. 7 p.m. Georgia Museum of Art.
