Keynote speaker controversy

The University announced last week that Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas would be the keynote at undergraduate commencement May 10. Since then, there has been a firestorm of controversy over whether he should or should not come here. Either way, it's safe to say there'll be more people baking in the summer sun to hear Thomas speak than at previous ceremonies.

Railroad rascals

The Federal Railroad Administration built a fence to prevent trespassing on the railroad's property between the River Mill apartment complex and campus. Some students, however, intentionally cut a hole in the fence, elevating the crime to a felony rather than a misdemeanor. Is it really that hard to just walk to the designated crossing areas?

Chillin' at the Gym Dog Inn

Kudos to the Gym Dogs for hunkering down in a hotel to ensure they're free from distractions. We have our doubts about how that "no cell phone" rule went over with the ladies, but we're confident that in the end, the Gym Dogs will represent us well. It's an honor to have the NCAA Championship here in Athens - black out Stegeman and cheer our team on.

Just don't drink and bike

Saturday marks the 29th annual Twilight Criterium in downtown Athens. Take a break from the NFL draft and cheer on the racers while relaxing downtown. There'll be music, food and fun as spectators from around the area gather for the spring tradition. And since you'll already be downtown, there's no excuse not to celebrate when it's over.

Anything for free pizza

Police issued warrants for arrest Wednesday for several students who entered the dining halls using a universal code, thus essentially stealing meals from Food Services. We're amazed the dining halls had such a code, and we're still wondering how students were able to crack it.

Pro Dogs

This weekend, a few former Bulldogs, including Thomas Brown, Marcus Howard and Fernando Velasco, should be selected in the NFL Draft. Though they probably will not be selected in the first four rounds, we wish them all the best as they pursue their dreams of playing at the professional level. Wherever they end up, we're sure they'll make us proud. Go Dogs!
