Career milestones and season goals were achieved for the Georgia Bulldogs softball team in a weekend sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats.

Georgia (42-19, 13-12 SEC) defeated Kentucky (17-34, 3-22 SEC) twice on Saturday, 10-0 and 7-3, and in the process delivered head coach Lu Harris-Champer her 400th victory as the Bulldogs' coach.

The Bulldogs pushed across 17 runs in the doubleheader on 20 hits. Freshmen Megan Wiggins and Taylor Schlopy were the catalysts for offensive production, as Wiggins went five for seven with a pair of two-run home runs and Schlopy hit four for five with two doubles. Both Wiggins and Schlopy scored four runs and recorded five RBI in the doubleheader.

"It was really exciting to see everyone go out and play with so much effort for the team," Harris-Champer said in a news release. "[Wiggins] and [Schlopy] both hit the ball the way they are capable of doing. They are clutch hitters and have great swings."

The sweep also secured a place for the Bulldogs in the SEC Tournament, held in Baton Rouge, La., May 8-10.

Sunday went much the same for Georgia, defeating the Wildcats 9-4 to complete the weekend sweep.

Georgia continued the offensive outburst on Sunday, tallying a season-high 16 hits.

"Good things happen when you get that many hits," Harris-Champer said. "When any team is able to string hits together, they are going to score runs, and we did a good job of that this weekend."

Junior Christie Hamilton picked up her second win of the series and third of the week after tossing four innings and allowing two runs, one of which was earned.

Hamilton improved to 11-2 on the season. Freshman Sarah McCloud tossed the final two-plus innings for her second save of the year.

"It was good to see [Hamilton] and [McCloud] pitch well again today," Harris-Champer said. "They both did a good job of keeping Kentucky's hitters off balance."

The Bulldogs will have a full week of practice before their final series of the regular season with No. 1 Alabama at home next Sunday through Tuesday.
